How To Import Bookmarks Into Chrome

You can import your old bookmarks into Chrome from the backup file or other web browsers. After importing the bookmarks into Chrome, you can sync the bookmarks across your devices using the Sync feature. 

Ways of Importing Bookmarks into Chrome

Chrome has a built-in tool to import bookmarks, auto-fill data, etc., from other installed browsers on the same computer. As well as you can import bookmarks from a .html file. 

How can you get the html file? 

You can export the bookmarks from any web browser as a .html file, and all browsers support importing bookmarks/favorites from a .html file.

Import Bookmarks into Chrome from another browser

You should follow this method only if you want to transfer bookmarks from a different browser on the computer. If you want to transfer bookmarks from another device, you must use the .html file. 

Open Google Chrome on your computer and click on the menu icon from the top right corner. Click on Bookmarks from the menu and select Import Bookmarks and Settings.

Alternatively, type chrome://settings/importData in the address bar and press Enter

Select the browser you want to import bookmarks from using the drop-down menu.

If you only want to import Bookmarks, select Favourites/Bookmarks and click Import

In the Bookmarks Bar, chrome will create a folder called Imported from [Browser name]. You can click on the folder to check all the bookmarks.

If you have a backup html file from any browser, you can import the file from the Bookmarks Manager

Go to Chrome Bookmarks Manager

Open Google Chrome on your computer and vertical three-dots icon from the top right corner. Click on Bookmarks from the menu and select Bookmarks Manager

Click on Import bookmarks

Select Import bookmarks from the menu. 

It will open the file manager of your computer. Select the backup HTML file and click Open.

Chrome will create a folder called Imported in the Bookmarks Bar. Click on it to check all the bookmarks.

After importing the bookmarks to your computer, click the three-dots icon at the top right corner and go to Settings

Click on Sync and Google services and go to Manage what you sync

Choose Sync everything, or if you are using Customizing sync, ensure Bookmarks is selected.

Now open Chrome on your smartphone and tap on your Google profile picture. Tap on Sync and toggle on Sync everything.

Wait for a while, and all bookmarks from your computer will also be available on your smartphone. 

Quick tip: Double-check if you are using the same account on your smartphone as your computer. Otherwise, you won’t find the bookmarks on your smartphone.
